Sometimes we just need an outlet, but inspiration doesn’t always hit when we want it to. So I’ve compiled a list of 30 journal prompts for those of you who enjoy writing, but just need an idea to work off of. Here’s the fuel for an entire months worth of journaling.
Journaling Tips
Before get into my list, I wanted to give you a few quick journaling tips that I’ve found to be very helpful. I’m an easily distracted and anxious person, so if you find yourself dealign with one or both of those traits as well, these tips might help you also.
Journal On Your Own Time
For those who tend to get easily distracted, there are two possible approaches: either adhering strictly to a fixed schedule or having no schedule at all. Despite my strong desire to be the type of person who writes in their journal every morning at 6 am, followed by a two-mile run and some yoga, I am unfortunately far from that ideal. I have discovered that the optimal time for me to write in my journal is when my mind feels calm and I have already completed other tasks that have been weighing on me throughout the day. However, it is important to note that there is no correct way to be here. Engage in your journaling practice at the time that feels most suitable for you, forget about the suggestions of your favorite influencer.
Don’t Let Perfectionism Get In Your Way
Don’t stress out over writing in your “perfect journal” and ruining it. If you are like me and covet a stack of beautiful, hard-covered journals that you paid $10 or more a piece. And you refuse to write in them out of fear of “messing them up” if your writing isn’t what you consider to be worthy of such an amazing journal. Then you understand where I’m coming from. However, it’s important to remember that journals are meant to capture and reflect our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Instead of letting perfectionism hinder your creativity, embrace the imperfections and allow your journal to become a space of authenticity and personal growth.
