Are you tired of coming down with a case of the sniffles just as final exams are rolling around or as you’re trying to prepare for the incoming holiday season? There are things you can do to turn your immune system into the powerhouse that you need it to be. I’m here to tell you some simple things you can do to strengthen your immune system to combat against the yearly cold bug that you know you are bound to cross paths with at one point or another.
- WASH YOUR HANDS!
I can’t stress enough how important hand washing is. Washing your hands is definitely an important practice all year around, but it’s good to be especially adamant about it as the year rolls into the late fall/winter months.
*tip* During this time of year you’ll be out and about quite a bit more than you usually would be. Whether you’re going to the grocery store to food shop for the holidays or to the mall to grab some gifts for Christmas. You won’t want to be bothered to run to the bathroom and wash your hands each time you encounter a new doorknob or shopping cart. I’m telling you, pocket-sized hand sanitizer is a godsend.
- Up your intake of citrus fruits!!
- Whether you’re drinking a nice glass of orange juice with breakfast, enjoying a refreshing glass of water with a few lemon slices in it, or even eating any type of citrus fruit. Just to give you a quick lesson on why citrus fruit is so good for your immune system, they are chock full of vitamin C! The more bitter the fruit is, the more vitamin C it packs. Most of the cells that make up your immune system rely on the accumulation of vitamin C to perform tasks. Therefore, the more vitamin C you give them, the stronger they can be.
- Utilize Over the Counter Immune Boosting Supplements
- If citrus fruits just aren’t your cup of tea (tea is also a good idea), supplements like Emergen-C and Airborne can definitely give your body that much-needed vitamin C boost that it needs to power through a cold season unscathed. The taste definitely takes some getting used to, but if you can down just the one dose you won’t regret it. You don’t even have to wait until you feel a cold coming on. Drink one dose of either one once a week as the weather begins to cool down.
- Essential Oils
- Essential oils are one of the most natural routes you can take to strengthen your immune system, aside from eating citrus fruits of course. To learn more about what essential oils are and what benefits they can provide for your body, check out this article. You’ll learn more than enough about what these oils can do for you and your health.
When all else fails, chicken noodle soup, a hot cup of tea, and a warm blanket usually do the trick!
Be sure to consult with your doctor before taking either supplement regularly, if you have any concerns.

Yesss I wash my hands like crazy in flu season. A doctor friend said never touch your face. The trick is never touching your face, touching your mouth or nose or eyes will get you sick fast.
