Recently I traveled to North Carolina from my home in South Florida, not only to visit some family that lives up there. But also to do some exploring in whatever spare time I might have. One of the days I was in North Carolina I made it a point to take a day trip over to Asheville with my cousin.
Asheville has been on my travel bucket list for some time now, and I can finally cross it off.
A good friend of mine lives over there as well, so it was fun to visit him. He gave me a nice little tour around the area that he lives in.
This area was like a little downtown/historical district. We went down a road that was lined with little shops that were privately owned by locals. What I mean by that, is that you wouldn’t see any of these shops anyplace else. They were all unique.
I wish I had been able to take more pictures than I did, but my phone had died on me shortly after I had arrived. Don’t worry, I definitely plan to get back up there sooner than later, preferably in the cooler months of the year. So there are definitely more pictures to come in the future, along with a ton more information about each place that I venture into.
As you can see by the photos, I was up there at a very good time of the year. I experience the beauty that is fall in Asheville. It made my heart happy to see all of the colors that I miss so much while living in South Florida.
Photos from Downtown Asheville
Fun fact, all of that yarn work in the second and last photo is work done by locals just to brighten up the area. As well as send a message, judging by the color choice and signage in the last photo. We stopped in a little, family owned yarn shop called “The Yarn Emporium”. Any one who dabbles with crocheting or knitting would have been in heaven in this shop. Floor to ceiling shelves of yarn in every color and texture you can imagine. Not only that, but also yarn accessories such as buttons, in every shape and size.
Blue Ridge Parkway
The fifth photo was taken on a bridge that passes over a highway, on a famous road called Blue Ridge Parkway. This road is famous for its natural beauty that you can experience while driving along any part of its 400-mile long stretch. This road skirts along and through the Appalachian Mountains through Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and finally Georgia.
One could realistically drive the entirety of this road in about 2 days time while stopping periodically along the way of course. An adventure that I imagine someone would never forget.
Farm Burger
I can tell you, we did eat at an amazing little place called Farm Burger. It’s located one Patton ave in Asheville. The food was all fresh and made to order, and let me tell you, the fries that come with the meal are to die for. The staff all had very welcoming and personable attitudes. I felt as though they were talking to me as a friend rather than as a customer.
I definitely recommend stopping by Farm Burger for a bite if you happen to travel to Asheville and want a good burger. My phone was dead for this time period also, so sadly I have no pictures, but I still wanted to tell you all about this place. It was just so cozy and worth the stop and $16.
Might you be saying “whoa.$16 for a burger? No way man.” but let me tell you, this food was worth the money. Not only that, but you are paying for the inviting, hospitable atmosphere along with the delicious food.
I did find out that Farm Burger does have a handful of other locations throughout the country. There’s one in Nashville TN, three in GA, and one other in Huntsville AL. Not as many locations as say, a place like McDonald’s. So I would still classify this place as unique, for sure.
