Do you have a money saving goal in mind but struggle to save an adequate amount of money each week? I’m here to tell you it can be easier to save up for that new flat screen tv or a trip to Spain that you want to go on next year. There are a select few apps that I personally have been using for well over a year or two now, and swear by them and their ability to put money back in my pocket.
Flipp
I’ve been using the app Flipp For over two years now. It’s an app that gives you all of the weekly fliers for stores like you would find in your Sunday paper, and so much more. I’ll check Flipp before heading out to the store, either to grab coupons or write my shopping list according to what’s on sale and what I can get within my shopping budget.
You can circle items within the app and it will create a shopping list for you. Flipp actually just added a new rebate feature, that gives you cash back on certain items if you have the store membership card. You’re able to sync that card with the app and it will automatically load those coupons onto that card for you to use right in the store. You can really do some serious money saving with this app.
Ibotta
Ibotta is a really awesome app. One of my favorites to use for money saving really. Especially when I was in college! It took me a while to get my self into the habit of using it religiously, but now I t typically don’t go out to the store without referring to that app first.
Ibotta is a very helpful app that is very easy to use once you understand the layout. Once you have your account made, and you get to the main part of the app, you’ll see that it has listings of your local stores, grocery stores, dollar stores, and even gas stations.
You’ll notice items listed under each store, with a particular dollar amount listed beneath them. That is the amount of money you are able to receive as a rebate after purchasing said item. It is literally as simple as that!
Once you’ve purchased any items shown in ibotta under a particular store, you are then able to redeem those items in the app. You will first need to scan your receipt, and in some cases the item as well. Ibotta works really fast typically. You will get an email notification that your receipt had been processed, and you will get the amount of money promised in the rebates that you redeemed!
I personally have cashed out a decent amount of money since using the app. about $125 so far. You can also see how much your facebook friends who also use the app have redeemed. I’ve seen some who have saved over $2,500 in a years time using Ibotta! You can easily take the money you’ve earned off of the app and have it deposited into a PayPal account once you’ve reached the required amount to do so, that being $20.
Groupon
Groupon is a really good app for money saving on day to day things as well as on exciting new adventures! I’ve used Groupon only a few times so far, but each time has been a great experience!
I’ve used a groupon for an awesome hotel stay in Fort alauderdale, where the beach was right across the street from our hotel. Originally it was about $200 for one night, but I got my boyfriend and I a night for $86! We also were able to go to one of our favorite pizza places and have $10 taken off the bill through Groupon!
My overall experience with Groupon has been excellent so far. I recommend the app to anyone who enjoys saving money on a daily basis.
The Walmart app
I don’t see this one advertised as much, but this app is a very good money saving tool if you shop at Walmart on a regular basis. With this app you can scan your receipt after shopping at Walmart and they will price match every one of your items with the prices listed for those same items at all other local stores. If they find a store that sells that item for a lower price they will pay you the difference!
All this money adds up in what’s called your “savings catcher”. You can only redeem this money to use at Walmart, but seeing as you shopped there enough to make that money in the first place, a enjoy your shopping spree with all that money you’ve saved!
June 2024 Update:
The Walmart Savings Catcher is no longer a thing at this time, but man, was that a good time to be a shopper. Now, the Walmart app has built in manufacturer coupons that you can “clip” on certain items and that becomes “Walmart Cash”. Which is saved in your Walmart app and able to be redeemed on future online purchases
As we continue to move deeper into this digital age that we live in, businesses continue to encourage online shopping more and more. Providing incentives and discounts of sorts. You may notice that many items are cheaper if you were to buy them online with the Walmart app, with or without these coupons”. And they will offer you free 2 hour pick up or even a discount on delivery to your home.
Shopkick
Shopkick is an app I’ve had for a couple years now but don’t use too frequently, mostly because I forget when I’m at the store. I’ve talked to people who use it religiously though, and they’ve had good experiences with this app.
With this app, you earn “kicks” which is their points system. You earn kicks either by simply walking in the store that they’re affiliated with, scanning certain items in that store, or purchasing certain items they have listed as well.
They work with a good number of stores, including your typical grocery stores such as Walmart, or clothing stores like Macy’s. So you’ll have plenty of opportunities to earn kicks to use towards your reward! Rewards range from gift cards to stores like Starbucks, Home Depot, and so many more. Some rewards are even items like Beats headphones or iPads.
These are all apps I’ve used personally, and have found that they have the potential to help me with my money saving goals month to month!
